Cost advantages On average, cemetery costs double approximately every 10 years. The increases can be even more dramatic; for example, cemetery property 20 years ago averaged $200 per grave. Today the cost can range between $600 to $5000 per grave in some cemeteries. That is why it makes sense to purchase space now; so the cost will be "locked in" forever. More choices The sooner you purchase space the more options you have regarding location and availability. This is particularly important if you want your family members to be interred together. Spare your survivors the burden In addition to planning the funeral, survivors must complete paperwork, prepare for visitors and notify newspapers, insurance agents and other organizations. By purchasing space today you save your survivors the financial and emotional burdens of doing it for you. The time to make decisions about burying loved ones is not when you and your family are in shock or overwhelmed by grief. Not only is it difficult to think clearly at that point, but there are many other matters that have to be attended to, tasks that could not be taken care of ahead of time. Purchasing a burial space also requires a major financial outlay and the deceased's bank account is often initially inaccessible to survivors.
